Revised 11/04
Dear Tree Conservation Board Members:
We have six problem deciduous trees in the exterior zone along the Eastern boundary of
our back yard at 333 Eleventh Street and one in the NW corner. Since I purchased the
home a little more than a year ago, we have had numerous large branches fall to the
ground, and have experienced a continuous downspill of leaves. We have been unable to
retain a pool company to service our swimming pool because of the massive amount of
leaves the pool regularly captures.
I am a disabled person but have finally gotten out to measure the trees directly and plot
them on a property survey. Your staff/representative(s) are welcome to come on to the
property and survey the trees in question. They are quite obvious, being the only
deciduous trees in the rear yard along the Eastern boundary. Two arise directly from the
fence. My physical health also makes maintaining the yard very problematic for me with
all the detritus from these trees.
My one year old Grandson is a regular visitor to the property. I need to install a pool
perimeter fence this Spring as he is now walking about. The regular falling of branches
threatens to hurt him and to damage/collapse any pool fence I would erect for his safety.
We will abide by your advice as to the best type of replacement(s) and most suitable
locations on the property, as long as we do not recreate the problem we now have. If
paying in to the Tree Fund is the only compensation that makes sense, I will pursue that
option. Furthermore, we hope that by `thinning out' the massive tree canopy, we will
enable the wonderful palm trees and other specimens to flourish.
My son, Pat, daughter-in-law, Stephanie, my Grandson and I love Atlantic Beach. We
are supportive of the spirit of care and concern to keep it the mystical, magical place it is
for generations to come.
Thank you.

(*) Diameter at Breast Height (D.B.H.), is measured at 4.5 feet above grade. To accurately determine diameter, measure the
trunk circumference and divide by 3.14. Diameter of multi -trunked trees is determined by adding together the diameter of each
trunk as measured immediately above the forks.
