ITEM: Longevity Pay for General Employees

BACKGROUND: A review of the policies and procedures within the City's two union
contracts and for general employees has identified that Longevity
Pay for union employees is currently $ 25 a month for each five
years of service; whereas, it is $ 20 a month for each five yeazs of
service for general employees as follows:

REQUESTED ACTION: Authorize an increase in the general employees' longevity pay from
$ 20 a month for each five yeazs of service to $ 25 a month for each
five years of service to be effective October 1, 2000.
FUNDING: It is estimated that this action will cost approximately $ 3,600
annually and will be allocated to the affected departments which
should be able to fund this amount from their currently approved
FY2000/2001 budgets.
