Our lot is 90 feet wide. Our house and wall were designed to fit within the 7 . 5 foot side set back. We encountered a problem when the City of Atlantic Beach Tree Board requested two large oak trees be saved. The house had to be moved to save the trees. Oceanwalk Homeowners Association did not want the house to move forward beyond a 32 foot setback, but told us to rotate or angle the house in order to move the back corner of the home away from the trees. By angling the house, the trees were saved and we proceeded to construct the house according to our original plans which show a cement block wall equal to the height of the soffit. We have actually set the blocks lower than shown on the plan, but at a height necessary to provide privacy in the glass door to the master bath. The wall is also a benefit to the neighbor, providing privacy to his backyard. The neighbor is on a pie-shaped lot so he looks into our sideyard. We have a written note from the neighbor in support. We intended to finish the wall to match the stucco on the house with a band treatment and plant some bushes around the area. A photograph from the street will be provided to show the wall will not be a problem for the neighborhood since the trees block its view from the street.
