Re: 11TL~TTIC BE.~CH LIFEGL?~RD BUILDING
Dear 11Ia}•or and Commissioners:
.~~ Q_
~j !~
In response to your request, we have done research on single pane windows versus insulated
windows. Several factors came up with all window companies (and we spoke to at least three)
representatives; these were:
• Regular single pane Windows Would not be sufficient to withstand the wind load
requircmrnts of oceanfront use. Insulated Windows arc stronger on two respects; their
frames arc more substantial and the two layers of glass provide more strrngth. The
Windows Would need to be built with'/+" plate glass. There is only one manufacturer Which
makes Wood Windows With plate glass Which are also clad on the e~tcrior (I do not
reeommrnd Wood that is not clad). Because this Would be a special order, the city Would
realize no cost savings this Wa}:
Therefore, I do not recommend single pane windows orer insulated windows. I will answer any
questions that I can and go orer more detail at Monday nights meeting
