CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Norris called the meeting to order at 6:42 p.m.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. Approve Minutes of the Board Member Review Committee meeting of February
25, 2020.
B. Approve Minutes of the Board Member Review Committee meeting of April 28,
2020.
MOTION: Accept the minutes of the Board Member Review Committee meetings of February
25, 2020 and April 28, 2020.

2. INTERVIEW CANDIDATE FOR THE CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION
ADVISORY COMMITTEE
A. Barbie Brooksher
The Committee interviewed Ms. Brooksher. She explained her personal
accomplishments, experiences, goals, and interest in the community. The Committee

offered her the opportunity to ask questions. Mr. Curtis and Mr. Johnson gave an
overview of the duties and responsibilities of the Cultural Arts and Recreation
Advisory Committee and answered questions.
3. PUBLIC COMMENT
There were no public comments submitted or expressed.
4. DISCUSS CANDIDATE AND MAKE RECOMMENDATION
The Committee discussed the candidate and made the following recommendation:
MOTION: Recommend appointing Barbie Brooksher to the Cultural Arts and Recreation
Advisory Committee to fill an unexpired term as a regular member effective immediately and
expiring December 31, 2021.

Motion passed 5 to 0.
5. OTHER BUSINESS
A. Marketing and Recruitment
The Committee discussed the 2020 vacancies and the need to market and recruit.
Commissioner Norris asked for suggestions on getting the word out. The following
suggestions were made:
Rotate sending Letters to the Editor for The Beaches Leader
Work with local organizations such as Void
Look into assistance from Beaches Watch
Utilize the city's newsletter which is distributed in the utility bills
Ask for recommendations from outgoing members
Commissioner Norris asked the Committee to think about marketing and recruitment and
send any other ideas they have to the city clerk.
The Committee discussed the June meeting schedule and agenda. City Clerk Bartle
asked the Committee to bring their calendars to the next meeting. Commissioner Norris

reported she is working to collect feedback from board members/chairs and staff liaisons
about how we might better prepare citizens for serving on board and committees.
