CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:06 p.m. by Director Corbin.
1. OPEN DISCUSSION
Open discussion was delayed until after the presentation.
2. PRESENTATION
A. Future Flood Risk Modeling Presentation
Director Corbin went over the first few slides in the presentation. He explained that the
study being done by the City is different that some of the studies being done by other
communities. Director Corbin said the City had an existing contract with Jones Edmunds
and they were able to add to the contract and incorporate the Future Flood Risk Modeling
and Vulnerability Assessment. He said that the City was accepted for a grant that will
help facilitate the assessment and development of an adaptation plan.
Steve Swann, the City of Atlantic Beach Engineer, continued with the presentation. He
went over all of the slides in the presentation. Engineer Swann answered a few questions
throughout his presentation.
3. OPEN DISCUSSION
PUBLIC COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS:
Where did the City obtain there data from?
Do we need to worry about settling?
Does anybody track settling? (Yes, St. Johns Water Management)
Why does Beach Avenue only have drains starting in the 300 block?

Will wells be impacted? (No)
What happens if city starts raising roads, etc.? (Hypothetical: If the City decided to work
on Seminole road to protect from 100 year flood for safety, egress ingress...the homes
could have a problem.)
Is the City working with DOT? (Yes, in the past the State didn't talk about sea level rise,
now the DOT is considering sea level rise with everything that they do.)
The good news is we have time to come up with ideas.
Is SJWM looking at basic amenities? (Yes)
Discussion about St. Augustine and what they did.
Can the City be proactive? (Yes)
What is the next step to get it out to the public (Norris)
Mayor Glasser suggest a neighborhood block captain approach to educate people, this
was used by St. Augustine.
Will any of this affect our projected property values or the tax base?
Request that Staff come up with a way to explain to property owners the affects of
impervious surface on future flooding.
If we lose trees, does that have an affect? (Yes, trees hold water and without them the
water remains in the land)
Everyone was glad to see the City taking proactive steps. They thanked Staff for their hard
work.
