Kosoy, P.E., Director of Public Works ~~-~~ DATE: May 3, 1999 BACKGROUND: The project to expand the treatment capacity of the Buccaneer Wastewater Treatment Plant was awarded to Meadors Construction Company, Inc. by the City Commission on November 22, 1998, in the amount of $1,753,187.00, which includes a contingency of $100,000.00. During the Pre-Construction Conference for the project, City staffnoted that additional settling of the existing Operations Building foundation had occurred, and the engineer, Gannett Fleming, suggested that the building be repaired prior to installing the ne~v Sequencing Batch Reactor control panel and electrical components in the building. n Meadors Construction Company, Inc. proposed to provide all labor, equipment, and materials to repair the building foundation for the sum of 516,500.00. City staff obtained quotes to perform the work from local building foundation repair specialists as follows: Hightower Geotechnical Services, Inc. 512,316.00 Foundation Systems and Equipment Company, Inc. $12,900.00 Soil Stabilization Specialists, Inc. Did not wish to quote. In order to expedite this work, so as not to interfere with project construction and to ensure repairs are completed prior to installation of the new electrical equipment, we would like to waive the formal bidding process. These repairs can be funded from the $100,000.00 contingency amount in this project, account number 480-0000-533-6304. RECOMMENDATION: Waive the formal bidding process, and approve the proposal from Hightower Geotechnical Services, Inc. to perform the building repairs in the amount of $12,316.00 ATTACIiMENTS: 1.
