Cloister - 2Brenna, Start time was 9:00. I got there at 10:30 and they were still removing drywall. The representatives for the first floor were in that unit and going back and forth to the second floor. I visited them once. I also visited the third floor residents once. Brett Newkirk started his investigation and discussed his means and methods with several other people in the room. There were probably 20 people there with between 8 and 15 in the room at any one time. Engineers, lawyers, contractors, workmen, etc. I stayed until 1:30 (3 hours), staying outside for about an hour of that time. The demo was general removal of coverings until the end, when Brett drilled holes down through the double bottom plate. It appeared that the bottom plate was not over a structural floor joist directly under the bearing post for the LVL beam (Cantilevered?) A Ryan Grimmer? , attorney for the Cloister, called this morning and asked about the permit to repair that bottom plate. I told him the contractor should submit a revision to the existing permit with an engineered repair. Photo attached.
