Cloister Unit # 65Good morning Dan, Thank you for speaking with me this morning. As we discussed, my Clients plan to submit a new “after the fact” permit application for the repair work done to Unit 65. However, we have been unable to locate such a form on the City’s website. Instead, as discussed, we will be using a regular permit application. We will write in that it is an “after the fact” application and will cross out any language to the contrary. Please confirm this is acceptable. Also, as we discussed, it has come to my attention that the holes that were drilled into structural members of Unit 65 were subsequently filled in by the contractor without obtaining a revised permit and without any type of engineered scope of work. This repair was done without the knowledge or consent of the owners’ of Unit 65. In fact, specific objections to this type of repair were made to Mr. Newkirk immediately following the destructive testing. I bring this information to your attention as the City’s building official that oversaw the destructive testing. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Ryan M. When we first talked about this repair, we discussed submitting a revision to the DEMO20-0018 Permit as the fastest way to permit the work. I understood the critical timeframe (and still understand) the Campbells were under and I approved the revision without using our standard and more lengthy process. It has now come to my attention that a second contractor did the work under the permit held by the first contractor. That situation cannot be approved and I have no choice but to reverse my approval and void the previously approved revision (Attached). As we just discussed, your contractor will apply for a new permit for the repair work to the bottom plate. Please know that this work can only be approved as a repair to that bottom plate. There may be other structural defects that may require additional engineering and repair, as determined by future legal and technical discussions. Please contact me if you have any questions.
