Cloister condo meeting - 1Mr. Howell, Thanks for the email, and the update. You are right about the engineers. I know them both and could have a conversation with them. But in the end, they will have to stay out of it. The request for bids is good progress. Good luck, Dan Arlington Dan Arlington, CBO Building Official City of Atlantic Beach, Florida darlington@coab.us<mailto:darlington@coab.us> (904) 247-5813 From: Marshall Howell [mailto:mfhowelljr@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2019 8:14 PM To: Arlington, Daniel <darlington@coab.us> Subject: Re: Cloister condo meeting Dan, sorry that your judgement is being questioned by folks who are simply trying to cover their rear and not address the problem, however thanks to you the board approved getting three bids from forensic structural engineers at tonight's meeting. I'm not sure how much help the two design engineers would be since it may ultimately be determined they have some culpability but who knows. It may be two more months before the board decides IF they will actually hire an engineer. In the meantime we are pursuing hiring our own. I would not be surprised if mgt. co. and/or Allison try to get the board to just go with the architect' s report. We shall see. Thanks again, more progress than we've had since this began. I am trying to be careful to not damage your property values or the perception of your buildings. I am not a structural engineer and I cannot do the evaluation needed here, but I have been building, repairing, and inspecting buildings for a long time and I am very sure that we have a settlement/deflection issue somewhere beneath Unit #66, that needs to be resolved. I plan to call the two engineers that designed the remodel of Units #65 and 64, tomorrow, and see if they are interested in helping. I will keep you informed of anything I do or find out. There is not and we don’t need a structural engineer to determine that! You are welcome to inspect these units and verify for yourself. I take complete exception to your misstatements and careless innuendos.
