ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach this 14th day of June, 1999.
WHEREAS, Eleanor Ashby retires this year from the organization known as Leadership Jacksonville after having
served for more then twenty years as its Executive Director, and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Ashby has been instrumental in bringing out the leadership qualities in people, and in
connecting those people to the right cause, volunteer board affiliation or professional opportunity, and
WHEREAS, sixty residents of the City of Atlantic Beach are graduates of Leadership Jacksonville and have
benefitted from the leadership training including the current and former Mayors, Suzanne Shaughnessy and Lyman
Fletcher, the current and former Mayors-Pro-Tempore, John Meserve and Dezmond Waters, and the Chairman of the
Community Development Board, Donald M. Wolfson, and
WHEREAS, current and former Mayors of the City of Jacksonville, John Delaney and Edward Austin, have
participated in and support Leadership Jacksonville, and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Ashby has played a major role in the progress of any community with which she has been
involved, whether it be the City of Atlantic Beach or the City of Jacksonville, and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Ashby serves generously as a member of the School Advisory Committee for our local
Elementary School, and as a member of the City Manager Selection Committee for the City of Atlantic Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Atlantic Beach City Commission commends Eleanor Ashby
for the way she has promoted and practiced the concept of "community trusteeship" in which individuals hold their
community in trust by their search for the common good.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Atlantic Beach City Commission extends their best wishes to Eleanor
Ashby for an enjoyable retirement.
