A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH DECLARING SUNDAY, JUNE 20, 1999 AS BREAST
CANCER AWARENESS DAY IN ATLANTIC BEACH
WHEREAS, breast cancer afflicts more than 178,000 women in the United States of American each
year, 44,000 of whom die each year from this disease, and
WHEREAS, thirty-four dedicated women from throughout the nation who have been touched by
breast cancer personally or through relatives and friends, will bicycle across America in a "Pedal for
the Cure," and
WHEREAS, the Pedal for the Cure riders will bicycle 3,051 miles through eight states, beginning in
San Diego, California, and ending in Atlantic Beach, Florida, in an effort to raise funds and build
awareness of breast cancer, and
WHEREAS, the Pedal for the Cure riders will present a check for $100,000 to the Breast Cancer
Foundation in Dallas, Texas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach
commends the Pedal for the Cure riders for their efforts to build awareness of this disease, and
declares
Sunday, June 20, 1999 as
Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Atlantic Beach
ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida this 14th day of June,
1999.
