The SaferWatch Mobile Application is a two-way
communication tool which helps to make citizens and
communities safer. SaferWatch enables Atlantic Beach
residents and visitors to report suspicious activity,
crime tips, potential threats and non-emergencies
directly to the City. SaferWatch is also an official
notification tool that empowers the City of Atlantic
Beach and the Police Department to send out real-time
and important notifications about emergencies and
safety notices. The City determines when it is
appropriate to send out a SaferWatch Alert.

There can be several reasons for this: First, SaferWatch
Alerts are sent based on certain types of activities
taking place within the City and it is the discretion of
the City as to when SaferWatch Alerts are sent out.
Second, there is a possibility that you have the
SaferWatch App but are not subscribed to the City of
Atlantic Beach or locations within the City. Third, you
are subscribed to locations but do not have
Notifications turned on for SaferWatch. Please ensure
notifications are turned on for SaferWatch App. Lastly,
there is a possibility that you may need to “Logout”
out of your account and log back in to update. You can
logout by going to the Account tab and then click on
the “Settings” icon on the top right of the page and
then click “Logout”. Once you log back into
SaferWatch, your account will be updated.

On Nov. 3, Atlantic Beach residents will fill the following
City Commission seats and consider the following
charter amendment by public referendum.
Public referendum/proposed charter amendment to
modify the Mayor-Commission terms of office:
“Commencing with the election in November, 2022,
shall Section 5 of the Atlantic Beach Charter be
amended to: (1) extend the Mayor-Commissioner term of
office from two to four years; (2) reduce the consecutive
terms from four to two terms; and (3) limit any Mayor-
Commissioner holding office as of November, 2022, who
has served two consecutive terms, to one additional
consecutive four-year term?”
If passed, this modification would be put into place after
the November 2022 election.

AB GENERAL ELECTION
Within or when adjacent to a residential zoning
district, equipment such as portable generators,
heating and air conditioning units, pumps,
compressors, or other equipment that makes excessive
noise may not be closer than 5 feet from any lot line.
The installation of a generator on residential property
requires two building permits: one for the electrical
connections and one for the fuel gas tank and supply
system. In addition to the installation details, a current
survey is usually required for both permits to verify the
locations of the generator and fuel tanks.
Where installed in a flood zone or an area subject to
flooding, the generator and connections must be
installed above the design flood elevation (DFE) and
the tanks must be above the DFE or anchored to resist
flotation and movement.
If you have questions or want more information, call
247-5814 or email info@coab.us.
ABOUT STANDBY GENERATORS
Already, three times during times of transition, Vic
Gualillo had stepped up to serve as Atlantic
Beach’s interim chief of police. Now, Gualillo’s
gotten the call, again. Only this time, there’s no
“interim” designation. Twenty-nine years after
joining the Atlantic Beach Police Department as a
patrol officer, Gualillo was confirmed Sept. 14 as
chief of police. City Manager Shane Corbin’s
recommendation to appoint Gualillo was
unanimously approved by the City Commission.
Congrats, CHIEF!
