Minutes / 08-30-99 MINUTES OF 7['I~; SPECI~!-L CALLED MEETING OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION, HELD IN CITY HALL AT 7:15 PM ON MONDA!-' AUGUST 30, 1999. Present: Suzanne Shaughnessy, Mayor Richard Beaver, Commissioner Jolul Meserve, Conunissioner Theo Mii:chelson, Commissioner Also: Alan Jensen, City Attorney Maw-een King, City Clerk David Tl~ioinpsori, City Manager Absent: Mike Borno, Commissioner The meeting was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy. The Mayor noted that Commissioner F3orno was absent and inquired if he was expected. The City l~lanager advised that he was out of town and would not retain until the following day, and because of scheduling conflicts, this was the only day this week on which the meeting could be held. The Mayor said she would like to have had all Commissioners present for the City Manager vote. 1. Discussion and related action in connection with the search for a new Cit,~ Manager Commissioner Beaver moved to direct the City Manager to contact James Hansen for the purpose of entertaining him as City Manager. The motion w,as seconded by Commissioner N[eserve. There was no discussion and the motion carried un,~nimously. 2. Any other business: Mayor Shaughnessy reported that the curbs had been installed in Town Center and invited those who had not already sc;en them to visit the area and check on the progress of the construction. Tlie Mayor reported she had attended a disaster preparedness meeting apt the :Emergency Operating Center in Jacksonville that afternoon. She presented documents to the City Clerk and asked that they be copied fir the City Commission. She said she had inquired about the use of the Beach :Boulevard bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway during emer€;encies and was advised that they were aware of the situation and had been working with the Coast Guard to come up wish a better arrangement. August 30, 1999 With regard to the: necessity of holding this Special Called meeting, the Mayor said that an official action could not be taken out of the public eye and she did not feel pooling was a legitimate way in which to az-riive at a decision regarding the next step in the City Manager search process. S?he felt it was, therefore, necessary to hold a Special Called Meeting for this purpose.
