POLICY TITLE: Emergency Generator Permits
EFFECTIVE DATE: 08/12/2020

PROCEDURES:
1. Electrical and Gas permits are required.
2. Each permit application should include a site plan, drawn to scale, showing the size, location, and
distance to lot lines and buildings of all equipment.
3. Generators, AC units, and other similar equipment that makes excessive noise must be a minimum of 5
feet from any lot line.
4. Generators cannot be approved in front yards, if over 30-inches in height.
5. There are several types and sizes of fuel gas supplies and tanks with different requirements.
a. Natural Gas. The regulations for the installation and location of natural gas supply lines and
equipment are found in the Florida Building Code – Fuel Gas (FBC-FG).
b. LP Gas. The regulations for the installation and location of LP gas tanks, supply lines, and
equipment are found in NFPA 58.
The type, size, and installation method of the tank must be stated on the permit application.
6. Tanks located in flood zones must be above the DFE or anchored to resist displacement and floatation.
(DFE = FEMA BFE + 2.5 feet)
7. Tanks located in stormwater storage areas must anchored to resist displacement and floatation.
