BACKGROUND: The previous City Manager resigned effective January 12, 1999,
and I 'was appointed to fill the position of City Ma~zager on an
interim basis. At that time, I offered to work in that capacity with
no additional compensation. I erroneously believed that [ would be
able: to do the City Manager work on a part-time basis... just
enough to keep things on track while the City was seeking a
replacement: for Mr. Jarboe. I also believed that thf: hiring proceas
for a replacement would only take a few months. Since that time,
the City Manager position has dominated my professional and
personal life.

compensation. The City Commission is well aware of my work
over the past nine months.
I an~i requesting additional compensation at the rate: of 10% of rriy
base; pay, retroactive to January 12, 1999, and continuing; until the
nevr City Manager is hired. This ten percent is consistent. with
promotional increases in the Police Department. Funding is
available in the current Police Budget for 1998-99 to cover the
additional costs.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve additional pay for the Interim City Mana€;er at 'l0% of his
base pay, retroactive to January 12, 1999, and continuin€; until a
new City Manager is hired.
