The attached letter from the Duval County Legislative Delegation announces a deadline of October
22, 1999 for filing of local bills.
1 would like to propose that we save some money in this city by holding our elections on a schedule
with other regularty scheduled elections. Currently, we are paying the entire cost for what amourns
to a "specia( election" every two years to elect our City Commissioners.
Please pursue the fo4lowing actions:
a
l . Kindly r~quest Supervisor of Elections John Stafford to advise our City Commission
as to what we might expect in terms of cost-savings were we to move our
election date to another time. Ask that he specify which dates would produce
optimum cost-savings.
2. Identify the procedures necessary for changing elecction dates. Include time
frames and deadRines required to effect this change for the next (2C3(} I) cycle.
3. Include this item on the soonest possible agenda for discussion among the City
Commissioners with possible related action.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
