The children participated in many different activities, and they really seemed to have enjoyed their first camp at the park. • Timmy Johnson counseled the children on the importance of staying drug free, and the significance of getting an education. Summary of Donner Park activities: • The Denta! Van returned to perform foliaw-up treatments of extractions and tooth fillings. A total of 45 children were treated. Also, the visit revealed that 12 children needed follow-up work and four children need to be treated a third time. • Four teens from Donner Park; along with Gail Baker, volunteered at the "Back to School with BEAM" give-away. They discussed getting more teen minorities involved in BEAM activities. Gail Baker and the teens were the only minorities representing the Atlantic Beach community. • The Donner Park Community Center attended a meeting for the food program give-away for September. They also collected and distributed school supplies and vouchers for school uniforms and shoes for the children in the neighborhood whose parents could not attend the BEAM give-away. Twenty- eight children benefitted from this event. • Four Donner Park children along with Gail Baker attended the play "Jesus Christ Superstar". • The after school "Homework Help Sessions" began on August 23rd. • The children registered and joined the "Cavity Fighters Club." Each child who participated received free toothbrushes and dental floss. Other dental pamphlets on good hygiene were distributed as well. Other Adele Grage and Parks & Recreation activities included: • Oversaw an Art Show on August 13. The participants from the summer art and pottery classes displayed their work. • Prepared the minutes and agenda for the Recreatian Advisory Board. • Oversaw the construction of the Tresca Property. The construction is coming along very well. The crushed shell has been put out and the deck is 40% complete. The park is scheduled to be complete in November. • Reviewed the Bull Park Bids and met with the Recreation Advisory Board to discuss reducing the cost. • Passed out fliers to all the local area elementary and middle schools to advertise the upcoming Flag Football season. Practices begin next week and the first game is scheduled for Saturday, September 18. ~ The end of August also marked the end of summer camp for Donner and Jordan Park. I met with the entire Parks & Recreation staff to review and ensure that the summer camp agenda was met. We also discussed and exchanged opinions concerning haw each of us felt this year's summer camp was spent. The. outcome of the meeting revealed that this year's .summer camp was productive and ended on a positive note.
