Exh 8EdL y~~7-9q CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Interim City Manager Compensation DATE: September 8, 1999 SUBMITTED BY: David E. Thompson, City Manager BACKGROUND: The previous City Manager resigned effective January 12, 1999, and I was appointed to fill the position of City Manager on an interim basis. At that time, I offered to work in that capacity with no additional compensation. I erroneously believed that I would be able to do the City Manager work on a part-time basis... just enough to keep things on track while the City was seeking a replacement for Mr. Jarboe. I also believed that the hiring process for a replacement would only take a few months. Since that time, the City Manager position has dominated my professional and personal life. I do not intend to present a detailed argument for additional compensation. The City Commission is well aware of my work over the past nine months. I am requesting additional compensation at the rate of 10% of my base pay, retroactive to January 12, 1999, and continuing until the new City Manager is hired. This ten percent is consistent with promotional increases in the Police Department. Funding is available in the current Police Budget for 1998-99 to cover the additional costs. RECOMMENDATION: Approve additional pay for the Interim City Manager at 1.0% of his base pay, retroactive to January 12, 1999, and continuing until a new City Manager is hired.
