It has come to my attention that there have been delays in the development of the 201 Mayport Road
project, and that some funding may now be in jeopardy as a result. I would like to share some
information with your funders that may be worthy of consideration. In 2015, the City of Atlantic
Beach experienced the busiest year of construction and land development in recent history. In 2015,
the City permitted 110 new homes. By comparison, the City permitted new 24 homes in 2014 and 26
in 2013. The City's Building Department, which I manage, had the exact same levels of staffing in
2015, as it did in 2013 and 2014.
As a result of the heavy work load from the 201 Mayport Project, the Atlantic Beach Country Club
development, and general development elsewhere in the City; my staff has been overloaded with
work. This has resulted in longer plan review times, longer waits for building inspections, and longer
turnaround times on permitting. Just as Beaches Habitat has been patient with us in our busy year, we
hope you are offered the same level of patience with your funders.
