Interim City Manager Memo dated October 1, 1999 _ _. __ x;11 Y Ut' A 1 LA1V 11C; J3t;AC;H CITY COMMISSION STAFF REPORT __ AGENDA ITEM: Interim City Manager Compensation DATE: September 8, 1999 SUBMITTED BY: David E. Thompson, City Manager BACKGROUND: The previous City Manager resigned effective January 12, 1999, and I was appointed to fill the position of City Manager on an interim basis. At that time, I offered to work in that capacity with no additional compensation. I erroneously believed that I would be able to do the City Manager work on a part-time basis... just enough to keep things on track while the City was seeking a replacement for Mr. Jarboe. I also believed that the hiring process for a replacement would only take a few months. Since that time, the City Manager position has dominated my professional and personal life. . I do not intend to present a detailed argument for additional compensation. The City Commission is well aware of my work over the past nine months. I am requesting additional compensation at the rate of 10% of my base pay, retroactive to January 12, 1999, and continuing until the ~, new City Manager is hired. This ten. percent is consistent with promotional increases in the Police Department. Funding is available in the current Police Budget for 1998-99 to cover the additional costs. RECOMMENDATION: Approve additional pay for the Interim City Manager at 10% of his base pay, retroactive to January 12, 1999, and continuing until a new City Manager is hired.
