Ocean Boulevard from Ahern Street to First Street

BACKGROUND: The first time the Town Center Improvements, Phase III project was bid, all
bids were considerably over budget and were subsequently rejected by the City Commission.
The project was rebid as a base bid and four bid alternates. The lowest bidder for the base bid,
ABBA Construction Company, was selected to construct the base bid project.
Bid Alternate No. 3 was for improvements to Ocean Boulevard from Ahern Street to First Street.
ABBA's bid price for this alternate was $64,670.87. ABBA Construction Company has agreed
to honor the bid price for this alternate.
BUDGET: At the direction of the City Commission during the budget process for FY
1999/2000, funds were appropriated for Bid Alternate No. 3 in the amount of $65,000. These
funds are available in the Convention Development Tax Fund Account Number 120-0000-519-
6300.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize expenditure of funds to enter rota a contract via the City of
Jacksonville, with ABBA Construction Company in the amaunt of $64,670.87, for
improvements to Ocean Boulevard from Ahern Street to First Street, in accordance with Bid
Alternate No. 3 of Town Center Bid No. CF-0088-99.
