Explanation of Hardship
1 . . January 1992 invested majority of savings in business,
in Melbourne, FL. Partner bankrupted business and left
state with our money.
2 . . In October of 1992 I was fortunate to obtain a
commission sales job and need to relocate to the
Jacksonville area quickly.
3 . . House on Live Oak Lane was in need of repair, but was
within our financial budget at that time.
4 . . At time of purchase had one son in college and felt
house was adequate to accommodate the three of us when he
graduated in the spring of 1994 .
5 . . Since purchase our daughter was divorced and
ex-husband left her with large monthly debt payments. She
is currently working two jobs but is unable to maintain
her own apartment and has moved home.
6. . At time of purchase my wife ' s parents were independent
and living in North Miami , since that time my mother in
law had become ill with cancer and my 82 year old father
in law cannot care for her. We have decided to open our
home to them so my wife can care for her mother. Their
current lease expires in October and they are planning to
move in with us at that time .
We now find ourselves in the position of having to
provide for 4 adults plus ourselves in a home without
enough necessary living space. Besides the need for an
additional bedroom, we require a larger family/dining
area. We have gotten estimates for various design plans
which included building a second story or adding
additional space in the front of the house. Both these
plans proved to be too expensive. We feel the plan
submitted offers the most efficient use of space, within
our budget, while only requiring a ten foot rear variance .
We even considered selling our home but in this soft real
estate market we have been advised that this would not be
a prudent course of action.
We find ourselves in desperate need for this
expansion and hope the board can understand our
circumstance and will grant us this variance .
