At your request I have inspected the 45 inch Live oak in your front yard at
742 Vecuna Road, Atlantic Beach. My inspection discovered 3 main
crotches in the tree that are very weak. This is called "included bark". The
main stems of the tree are growing very close together and this make for a
weak connection for the entire crown of the tree. As the tree gets bigger
(puts on more mass) the limbs will outgrow the ability of the crotch to hold
together and it will split off causing a major hazard to the house and
property. Also I noticed either ants or termites in these weak areas which
also contribute to the weakness of the crotches. In my opinion this tree
should be considered for removal.
