Hello Brian,
I've had 3 tree services take a look at the tree and to tell me what to do with it.
All three informed me that it is a laurel (water) oak which typically have a shorter life span.
All three informed me that it is dead and recommended its removal.
It has been dropping larger and larger branches on my house and yard for the better part of 2 years now, and in
the last storm punctured the roof of my screened in porch.
Please see the attached quotes that reference the tree, its current state, and recommendations for its disposition.

I went by and looked at the oak tree. It has lost some leaves but I’m not able to say for sure that it is dying or
dead.
I would recommend getting an arborist to take a look at it.
