The City of Atlantic Beach receives more than 100
residential fence permits annually. To efficiently
serve this high-demand permit type, the City is
now offering homeowners and contractors a
faster and easier way to apply for permits for
residential fence permits that are not associated
with pools.
It’s this simple: Walk in to City Hall with your fully
completed building permit application, fence
addendum and survey marked with the proposed
fence location, and walk out with your fence
permit. Applications and fence addendums are
downloadable at www.coab.us/fence. If by chance
staff cannot assist you immediately, we will – in
most cases – get back to you no later than the next
business day.
The City also is speeding up all other fence/wall
permits. With new efficiencies in place, these type
of requests typically take two to three business
days to complete.
“The rollout of online fence permitting will
increase efficiency for this common permit type,
which will reduce wait times and increase
compliance with our zoning ordinances,” said
Planning and Community Development Director
Amanda Askew. “This is a significant next-step
toward better serving our residents and
contractors.”
For more information and or any questions
regarding fence permits, call 247-5826 or email

CITY CALENDARAB LAUNCHES SAME-DAYFENCE PERMITTING
Dear Atlantic Beach residents,
First of all it is an honor to represent all Atlantic Beach
residents as the City Commissioner for my district, and I
cannot begin to express my gratitude for the support I
have received since being elected.
What a year it has been. The COVID-19 pandemic has
brought many challenges to our community and Nation.
It has opened the door for many businesses, schools,
corporations to create new ways of working and learning
that may continue into the future to improve efficiency
and productivity. It has also led to the demise of small
businesses and restaurants that may never come back.
Teachers and children have been faced with the hurdles
of online learning taking them out of the classroom and
away from the socialization that is necessary for their
growth and development. Parents have had to find new
ways to navigate their children in this process that has
brought stress and uncertainty to their educational
future.
The uncertainty of this virus has been extremely
challenging for scientists trying to find ways to stop the
spread, identify and quarantine those at greatest risk
and find a cure. In my 26 years of practicing medicine I
have never faced a more challenging disease that has
affected every single person that walks through my
doors. Domestic violence, child abuse, severe anxiety,
depression with suicidal thoughts due to loss of jobs,
isolation, severe illness and loss of loved ones have
escalated tremendously this year and we’re not sure
when or if it will slow down.
This being an election year has made this situation
worse. Our country and in some instances our
community has become more divided. At a time when we
need the support and encouragement of each other
these circumstances have wearied us from being able to
show how our fellow human beings the respect and
dignity they deserve.
Atlantic Beach is a gem of a place to live. With the above
events many people from all over the country and
various cultures, educational backgrounds, etc. have
begun to make AB their home. Many here have lost
family, jobs, insurance and have had to move out of AB.
Our small business owners, first responders, teachers,
local government and all that reside here need our
support and prayer. I suggest we count our blessings
daily and realize how blessed we are to live here in
America and especially here in Atlantic Beach.
