Pursuant to your request,find below clarification regarding fixed window orientation and installation of the window
approved under FL11409.1 and shown on drawing number RPLS0053 (see attachment of proposed orientation).
The Florida Building Code does not delve into this issue specifically. Additionally, it is not addressed in
AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440.
The installer wishes to rotate the window 90 degrees from its tested orientation of Width = 84" x Height= 52"to an
orientation of Width = 52" x Height=84".
This window was tested to ANSI/AAMA/NWWDA 101/1.5.2-97.This performance standard or later editions do not limit
the orientation of fixed windows to that used in testing. Because the head, sill and jambs are the same configuration and
because the window is inoperable,the method of testing is such that re-orientating the window has no affect on the test
results.
Therefore, it is acceptable to install the window in a 52 x 84 orientation as opposed to the 84 x 52 orientation shown in
the product approval.
