June 2021.pdfThe City Commission has approved
a Connectivity Plan, a valuable tool
when budgeting connectivity
projects that will also help guide
decisions for capital improvement
projects.
Connectivity is the measurement of
a system of streets, sidewalks, bike
lanes, paths, and trails with multiple
routes and connections serving the
same origins and destinations.
“An interconnected network can
accommodate more travel demand
than a roadway network with
limited connectivity,” says Planning
and Community Development
Director Amanda Askew. “This helps
to ensure the safety of pedestrians,
supports local land uses,
economies, natural environments,
and the overall equity of the
community. “

Suddenly, the 1800 block of Mayport Road has so many monikers.
Among them: The Cultural Corridor. Mayport Murals. Mural Walls. Mural
Park.
It’s fun being so popular.
As you’ve probably seen by now, the public art component of Mayport
Road’s revitalization has exploded, thanks to a collaboration between the
City, ArtRepublic, local property owners, and local, regional and
international artists.
And there’s more to come.
In a canvas as beautiful as Atlantic Beach, we are seizing on a unique
opportunity to bring awareness to our history, community, healthy ways of
life, and future by turning our walls over to talented artists to help us
transform Mayport Road into an art corridor for the Beaches.
Stay tuned and in touch – and by all means, get involved. There’s more
information at www.coab.us/murals.

We want you to participate in what happens at City Hall. Below
you’ll find some of the ways – a modified version of a list
published by Commissioner Brittany Norris – to stay in the know.
1) Join a board or committee – Our city benefits greatly from the
work and experience of our citizens. Check out current boards on the
City website (www.coab.us) to find the right fit for you. These boards
make valuable recommendations to the City Commission on issues of
the environment, zoning, city events, finances, and more. See the full
list at www.coab.us/boards
2) Bookmark and follow COAB’s (City of Atlantic Beach) news
page (www.coab.us/news), meeting/events calendar
(www.coab.us/calendar), and projects (www.coab.us/projects)
3) Sign up for Atlantic Beach’s e-newsletter – It’s as easy as
sending an email to info@coab.us and saying, “Sign me up!” This
newsletter is usually published 20-25 times a year, and particularly is
a key communications tool during emergencies.
4) Attend a City Commission meeting – Regular meetings are held
in the Commission Chamber of City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on the second
and fourth Mondays of each month, except in December.
Commission, board and committee meeting announcements are
posted at www.coab.us/calendar. All meetings not only are open to
the public, we really, really want you to be there.
5) “Like” the City of Atlantic Beach, Recreation Department and
Police Department on Facebook – You’ll get updates right in your
newsfeed.
6) Subscribe to NextDoor – The City posts regularly on this popular
app, which connects people with their neighbors and engages the
local community. Get started by downloading the NextDoor app on
your smartphone.

Introducing ... “No )*#@r (Litter)
Sherlock” .. a catchy ad campaign
created (and funded!) for the Cities of
Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach by
Keep America Beautiful, thanks largely
to Beaches Go Green.
The “No )*#@r (Litter) Sherlock”
campaign intends to get folks to think
twice before dropping a soft-drink can
or a plastic water bottle.
The two cities also have rolled out Keep
America Beautiful “smart” recycle bins
that send text messages to city
representatives when they are reaching
capacity.
Details are at www.coab.us/sherlock.
