Re: ELEVATORS INSIDE A PRIVATE RESIDENCE.
A new section in the Florida Building Code (FBC), 6th Edition (Effective December 31, 2017)
provides new requirements for elevators inside a private residence.
FBC-B, Section 3013 will apply to all new residential projects and elevators will be included in
the Plan Review for the project. Documents must show that the proposed elevator complies
with FBC-B, Section 3013.
New elevators in existing residential dwelling units will now require a Building Permit and Plan
Review. Documents must show that the proposed new elevator complies with FBC-B, Section
3013.
The new code requirements are based on Florida Statute 399.031, known as the “Maxwell Erik
‘Max’ Grablin Act.”
